Is Microsoft Already Manufacturing the Xbox 720?
0The Xbox 720 console is apparently in the manufacturing stages. According to an IGN source, assembly of the next-generation Xbox hardware started recently at the Austin, Texas branch of Flextronics. This is the same electronics company currently assembling Xbox 360 hardware, and is the manufacturer of the original Xbox.
Prior to reaching the manufacturing stage, Flextronics created a new testing group separate from the rest of the company. This team was solely dedicated to comprehensive marketing, software, and hardware tests of the Xbox 720. With that activity concluded, Flextronics started building the hardware — but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll see the Durango soon. (more…)

New Xbox 720 rumors: Xbox has 16 cores
0If the rumors are correct and both consoles ship for Holiday 2013, the PS4 will beat the Xbox 720 by a couple of months at most.
Additionally, Sony has managed to gather a lot of ill will in the gaming community and beyond. You can trace this back as far as the CD rootkit scandal of 2005. Or maybe it was Sony’s Ken Kutaragi suggesting that gamers should work more hours in order to pay for the super-expensive launch PS3. Sony became famous for its arrogance and a lot of gamers aren’t yet ready to forgive.
Sony is also reeling from a bad year, cutting 10,000 jobs and reporting a $6.4 billion loss. What will this mean for the PS4? It’s hard to say, though games are one of the 3 main focuses for new Sony President Kaz Hirai’s turn-around plan (the other two are mobile and digital imaging). With so much emphasis on Sony’s gaming business, maybe the company can make amends with the gaming community. (more…)
Xbox 720 to ship with insanely powerful CPU?

While a powerful CPU would be a nice boost for enabling more intelligent game engines, it’s actually the GPU that takes care of complex graphics rendering such as tessellation and anti-aliasing. Confused? Think lifelike texture and smooth jaggies-free outlines of your game characters for starters. (more…)
